FFA CHARTER RENEWED, SCHOOL PLACED ON FORMAL REVIEW

Family Foundations Academy Charter School will remain open next year after the State Board of Education assented to Secretary of Education Mark Murphy’s decision to renew its charter today. Meanwhile, State Board members also assented to his decision to place the school’s new charter on formal review. Last month, Murphy deferred making a decision on Family Foundations’ charter renewal application due to additional information the state received fewer than 24 hours prior to the December State Board meeting. As a result of Department of Education monitoring and investigation, the state had obtained a report including serious allegations of financial mismanagement. That

VOTING OPEN ON STUDENT LOGO CONTEST

Voting now is open in the Delaware Department of Education’s second annual Delaware Goes to College student logo contest. Anyone may vote through Jan. 26 by “liking” his or her favorite design on the Delaware Goes to College facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/DelawareGoesToCollege?ref=ts&fref=ts). Entries are displayed under the page’s photo albums. Students from the following schools have submitted entries: Brandywine’s Mt. Pleasant High, Cape Henlopen’s Cape Henlopen High, Capital’s Dover High,  New Castle County Vo-Tech’s Delcastle High, Red Clay Consolidated’s Cab Calloway, Smyrna’s Smyrna High and Sussex Tech’s Sussex Tech High. DE Texting Campaign for HS Seniors & Parents

Last night more than 4000 DE high school seniors received a text messages with information on college applications. The students signed up during College Application Month. The Department of Higher Education Office will be sending 2-3 texts per month, focused for now on FAFSA completion and scholarships. High school seniors and their parents are invited to sign up for the messages. Parents and students can use opt-in numbers that they can text to. Resources for Military Families

Military families are a big part of our Delaware community. We know that military families face unique challenges. The average military student will attend six to nine different school systems in their lives from kindergarten to 12th grade graduation.
