School Leader Professional Development Series on ESSA
October 26, 2016 @ 8:00 am - 2:30 pm EDT
The Opportunities and Challenges of Implementing the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) in Delaware.
National stakeholder groups including the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP), National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), National Education Association (NEA), and National School Board Association (NSBA) will be leading a conversation on the implementation of ESSA in Delaware.
This workshop is an additional forum for multi-stakeholder district teams to interact and discuss the opportunities and challenges introduced by this new legislation.
This panel session will be designed to fulfill three objectives:
- Establish a dialogue for discussing the differences between ESSA and the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).
- Define the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholder groups in advocating for and implementing changes required by ESSA.
- Identify how the implementation of ESSA can be used to address important challenges in Delaware’s public education system.
Participants will include: Leslie Finnan, Policy Analyst, AASA; Kelly Pollitt, Chief Strategist, Policy and Alliances, NAESP; Amanda Karhuse, Director of Advocacy, NASSP; Marc Egan, Associate Director of Government Relations, NEA; Kim Richey, Interim Managing Director of the Federal Advocacy and Public Policy Department, NSBA; Lucy Gettman, Interim Chief Advocacy Officer, NSBA
