March 24, 2015 Board of Managers

The Delaware PTA Executive Committee is in the process of preparing for our first Board of Managers meeting of the 2015 school year.

The Board of Managers meets twice a year and consists of all elected and appointed members of the state PTA, and the elected officers – or their appointed designee(s) of each local unit in the state of Delaware. The spring meeting is scheduled for Tuesday March 24th at 6:30pm at the state office.  Please mark your calendars and use this link to RSVP for the meeting and view the preliminary agenda.

As many of you know,  Delaware PTA has been engaging the community to address concerns/questions regarding the upcoming Smarter Assessments and Parent Opt Out.  We will be voting on Delaware PTA’s position regarding the Opt Out at this meeting. It is crucial that representation for each PTA unit and all Delaware PTA VIP members attend this meeting to ensure your representation in the voting process.

The purpose of the bi-annual meeting is to bring leaders together to conduct PTA business, vote on business items that must be brought to the state convention, vote on the position Delaware PTA will take on any action items on the agena and establish goals for the organization. Setting goals for the organization provides a road map that gives a target to strive for, plans for needed change, and something to look back on and measure. The goals allow to stay focused and on track, especially during conflict or challenges. In addition, the Board of Managers meeting allows all the PTA leaders in the state to get together and bring all of our resources into one room. This meeting gives everyone an opportunity to share and network ideas.  Additionally, there will be financial reporting, membership reporting, leadership training updates, and more from our State Board of Directors.

By attending the Board of Managers meeting, you are representing the views and opinions of the membership in your school and school community, exercising your vote in determining the course of PTA business, and ensuring that your unit receives the latest information updates on state and national priorities, activities, advocacy, resources and support.

As outlined in the local unit bylaws, representation of each local unit is expected at the Board of Managers meeting.

We are looking forward to seeing leadership from each unit.
