SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS AVAILABLE FOR DELAWARE STUDENTS

Each year, the Delaware Department of Education awards millions in college scholarships, grants and aid to students across the state. In 2016, more than $3.14 million was given to students in need based and merit scholarships and incentive loans, including the B. Bradford Barnes, Charles L. Hebner, and Herman M. Holloway, Sr. memorial scholarships. These full scholarship offers pay tuition, fees, room and board, and books for students enrolled full-time in 12 or more credit hours each semester. How are you funding your programs? Let DPTA help!!!

This is just a reminder that DPTA will be awarding grants to local units that are in good standing (up to $500 per unit). The total amount that will be granted for the 2016-17 school year is $5,000. Why?? DPTA wants to support units that are promoting PTA programs. These programs are: Student and School Success (Family Engagement) (e.g., school events for families, advocacy) Health and Safety (e.g., after-prom, walk-a-thons) Arts in Education (e.g., Reflections, after school art program) Not sure what these programs are? Deadline for filing your IRS 990 approaching

This is just a friendly reminder that the deadline to file the IRS 990 for FY 2015 is November 15th 2016! As a 501(c)(3), all local units are required to file an annual 990 to the IRS. If you revenue was less than $50,000.00 you can file online using this link To remain a unit in good standing with Delaware PTA each unit must submit proof of filing along with an audit report. Your Voice Matters for Investments in Education and Family Engagement

This fall, President Barack Obama signed a Continuing Resolution (CR) into law that funds the government at its current level until Dec. 9. Funding the government through a CR does not account for the annual growth of our nation’s education system nor fund important programs that are included in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)—such as Statewide Family Engagement Centers (SFECs). Therefore, it is critical for Congress to come together to pass an omnibus appropriations bill that funds SFECs and invests in education programs in Fiscal Year 2017 (FY2017).
