WORKSHOPS WILL HELP FAMILIES IN APPLYING FOR COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID

  The Delaware Department of Education is partnering with community organizations across the state to offer families support in applying for college financial aid.   The state is designating late February to provide outreach and guidance to families with graduating seniors seeking assistance in paying for college. Community organizations will sponsor events about financial aid and assist with Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion. Delaware School Libraries Council to Conduct Statewide Master Plan for Delaware School Libraries

(Dover, DE) – The Delaware School Libraries Council, with support from the Delaware Department of State and the Department of Education, is embarking on a Statewide Master Plan for Delaware School Libraries, a comprehensive planning effort designed to create a vision that will inform solutions for the development of state-of-the-art school libraries. COLLEGE INFORMATION NIGHTS OFFER HELP FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS’ FAMILIES   The Delaware Department of Education and Delaware PTA will host events in each county to provide college information to families of high school students. Students also are welcome to attend.   Parents and guardians will learn about the college application and enrollment process. National Youth Science Camp

OFFERS HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS CHANCE TO LEARN FIRST-HAND FROM SCIENTISTS –Two Delaware students will be selected to attend the nearly month-long camp this summer on full scholarships—   Delaware will send two 2015 high school graduates to West Virginia this summer to attend the National Youth Science Camp on full scholarships. The 3 ½-week experience (June 17 to July 11) includes lectures and hands-on research projects presented by scientists from across the nation, overnight expeditions into the Monongahela National Forest and a visit to the nation’s capital. The selected delegates must demonstrate academic achievement in science and show potential for thoughtful

FFA CHARTER RENEWED, SCHOOL PLACED ON FORMAL REVIEW

Family Foundations Academy Charter School will remain open next year after the State Board of Education assented to Secretary of Education Mark Murphy’s decision to renew its charter today. Meanwhile, State Board members also assented to his decision to place the school’s new charter on formal review. Last month, Murphy deferred making a decision on Family Foundations’ charter renewal application due to additional information the state received fewer than 24 hours prior to the December State Board meeting. Voting now is open in the Delaware Department of Education’s second annual Delaware Goes to College student logo contest. Anyone may vote through Jan. 26 by “liking” his or her favorite design on the Delaware Goes to College facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/DelawareGoesToCollege?ref=ts&fref=ts). Entries are displayed under the page’s photo albums. Students from the following schools have submitted entries: Brandywine’s Mt.
