ALEXANDRIA, Va., (Oct. 30, 2017)—National PTA announced today that $55,000 in funding will be awarded to PTAs across the country to promote family engagement in education during Take Your Family to School Week, Feb. 11-17, 2018. Through an application process, 55 local PTAs will be selected to receive grants of $1,000 each. “Family engagement in education is proven to positively impact student, school and community outcomes,” said Jim Accomando, president of National PTA. “National PTA is excited to equip PTAs with resources to get more families involved in their child’s education, particularly as part of Take Your Family to School

        We are excited to announce that DPTA will be awarding grants to local units that are in good standing (up to $250 per unit).  The total amount that will be granted for the 2017-18 school year is $2,500. Why??  DPTA wants to support units that are promoting PTA programs.  These programs are: Student and School Success (Family Engagement) (e.g., school events for families, advocacy) Health and Safety (e.g., after-prom, walk-a-thons) Arts in Education (e.g., Reflections, after school art program) Not sure what these programs are?  Information is at the top of the application.  Or log onto

Delaware high school students can apply to select colleges and universities for free in October and November in celebration of the state’s fifth annual College Application Month, which began this week and runs through Nov. 17. Application fees to all Delaware colleges and universities as well as Cabrini University in Radnor, Pa., are waived during the two months. Application fees to Salisbury University in Salisbury, Md., are waived through the end of October. Application fee waivers for additional schools also are available for income-qualified students. In October, National PTA’s Every Child in Focus campaign centers on LBGTQ History Month. Using the PTA National Standard for Family-School Partnerships, we will explore ways PTAs can welcome and support the families of LBGTQ children in the school community. Negative attitudes toward lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students puts them at an increased risk for violence and bullying.  Negative attitudes also impact a student’s ability to learn at school.  Get the facts on the challenges facing LGBT students here.
