HODGSON, DELMAR STUDENTS TO REPRESENT DELAWARE AT SENATE YOUTH PROGRAM

Two students will represent Delaware as delegates to the 52st annual United States Senate Youth Program in Washington, D.C., in March. Secretary of Education Mark Murphy selected Tiddy Mauti, a Hodgson Vocational Technical School senior, and William Bounds, a Delmar High School senior, as the First State’s delegates. U.S. Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons announced the names. Both delegates serve as their senior class presidents. Mauti also is state president of Delaware’s Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA)  association, National Honor Society president and a supporter/volunteer for numerous nonprofits and charities, including Special Olympics, Stockings for Soldiers, Relay for Life

Shirley Igo Advocate of the Year Ambassador Award

  Yvonne Johnson, Winner of the 2014 Shirley Igo Advocate of the Year Ambassador Award The 2014 Shirley Igo Advocate of the Year Ambassador Award is presented to an individual PTA member, who through their leadership and advocacy efforts, affected federal policy priorities within PTA’s annual Public Policy Agenda. Shirley was a model of public service and volunteerism throughout her life. She was an impassioned and compassionate leader, dedicated to moving PTA forward and committed to ensuring that others would follow.  Yvonne will accept the award during the 2014 National PTA Legislative Conference in Washington DC next in March.

Youth Involvement in PTA

  On January 11, 2014, Delaware PTA Student Ambassador Leah O’Neill joined students from around the country in a Student Engagement Virtual Town Hall hosted by the National PTA Youth Involvement Committee. Participants had an opportunity to share ideas and strategies on creating a new wave of PTA/PTSA student leaders, increasing student involvement at the National level and the development of programs that target the youth population. . O’Neill will be working on developing an action plan for involving more Delaware youth in PTA.

Every Child In Focus – December: Special Education Special Education ToolKit Every Child in Focus reinforces National PTA’s mission to advocate for every child—with one voice—so all families feel invited and welcomed within PTA, and are equipped with the tools to support their child and improve the school, which makes a difference for every child. DELAWARE’S 2012 PRESIDENTIAL AWARD WINNERS AND 2013 FINALISTS ANNOUNCED

Six educators from across the state are being honored for outstanding teaching in mathematics and science. The Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) is the highest recognition that a K-12 mathematics or science teacher may receive for outstanding teaching in the United States. Established by Congress in 1983 and administered for the White House by the National Science Foundation, the Presidential Awards allow for each state to select mathematics teachers and science teachers as state finalists. Those finalists then vie for the state title the following year.
