Public Hearing Scheduled for STEM Academy

Just a reminder that the Department of Education will be holding a public hearing on February 10th at 5:30 pm at the Carvel State Office Building regarding the application of the Delaware STEM Academy.. January: The Month of the Suburban Child

This month, National PTA’s Every Child in Focus campaign is centering on the Suburban Child. Last week, National PTA President Otha Thornton traveled to Capitol Hill to meet with members of the Suburban Agenda Caucus and discussed ways to increase support for suburban children. Next week we will continue the conversation in a webinar on Jan. 28—featuring Elizabeth Kneebone of the Brookings Institute—where we will share promising models and recommendations to more effectively address poverty at the metropolitan scale. National PTA will also award a copy of Elizabeth Kneebone’s book, Confronting Suburban Poverty in America to one webinar attendee. DELAWARE STUDENTS EARN ALMOST 300 FERGUSON SCHOLARSHIPS

  The Delaware Department of Education will award 299 Michael C. Ferguson scholarships of $1,000 each to 284 students statewide who attained high scores on the 2013 Delaware Comprehensive Assessment System (DCAS) reading and mathematics tests in grades 8 and 10. Six eighth grade students earned two scholarships, and 138 earned one scholarship. In the 10th grade, nine students earned two scholarships, and 131 students earned one scholarship. “Through hard work and perseverance, these students have exceled,” Secretary of Education Mark Murphy said. “I congratulate them and am glad that, through these scholarships, the state can support their continued studies.”

ECG Heart Screening Event

ECG Heart Screening Event at Springer Middle School on Saturday January 25 from 8am – 4pm.  It will be open to ANY and ALL students in Middle School and High School. The screenings are FREE. We must cap at 350 screenings. FIRST COME….FIRST SERVED. The mission of HEART IN THE GAME is to create awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in children and young adults through the formation of community access programs in 1) ECG Screening 2) CPR Training and 3)  AED (Automated External Defibrillator) Training. ADDENDUM TO DPAS-II REPORT OUTLINES ADMINSTRATOR EVALUATION RESULTS

Delaware’s Department of Education today released results from the administrator evaluation addendum to its “Continuous Improvement” report. The November report covered the results from “Year One” of the state’s revised evaluation system, the Delaware Performance Assessment System (DPAS-II).  The report shows progress in the overall implementation of administrator evaluation with an increased focus on student achievement. In 2012-2013, student improvement was weighted more heavily in administrators’ overall ratings than in previous years.
