Students to demonstrate skills at FCCLA conference

Students from across the state will gather at the Dover Downs to demonstrate their skills in a variety of competitive events Tuesday and Wednesday at the Delaware Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) annual conference.

Competitions include culinary, clothing and textiles, early childhood education as well as leadership and chapter events.  Leadership and content-related workshops also will be held throughout the day.

FCCLA is a youth leadership development organization for students enrolled in family and consumer sciences classes.  Professionals from many fields in both the educational and private sectors will serve as judges for the competitive events which help prepare the students for their roles as leaders for the future. The top students selected will be eligible to represent Delaware at the national FCCLA conference in San Antonio, Texas, this summer.

Students in FCCLA receive training through co-curricular activities within their classroom and after school, under the advisement of family and consumer sciences teachers.  In addition to the various workshops and competitions that will take place during the Dover conference, voting delegates will select the next slate of state officers, and the chapter Adviser of the Year and Administrator of the Year will be named.
