BOARD OF MANAGERS MEETING
January 27, 2010
Dear Local Unit Presidents,
On Monday, January 25, 2010, Delaware PTA held first of two annual Board of Mangers meetings. I was deeply disappointed that only two Local Unit Presidents showed up, Beth Engler from H. B. DuPont and Melisaris Taso from Newark High School. I wish to personally thank them for attending.
I realize that we all have any number of priorities and family things to do but it is very disheartening when you have 91 PTAs and only two LUPs show up. So, I have decided to write this letter to explain the purpose of the Board of Managers.
The Board of Managers directs the affairs of Delaware PTA between conventions. All Local Unit Presidents are automatically members of the Board. The Board meets only two times a year. In addition to directing the affairs of the Delaware PTA, the bylaws and standing rules provide that the Board
• holds the authority to remove, by due process, any appointed or elected member of its body – see Article VIII, Section 3.
• must elect the members of the Committee on State and Local Relationships – see Article XVI, Section 1.
• three members of the body must serve on the nominations committee
• standing rules must be approved by the board
• legislative priorities and resolutions must come before the board for a vote before they can be taken to convention
This board is very important to the running of your organization. Without you Delaware PTA cannot function as an organization. The meeting also provides an opportunity for the executive committee members to meet you, the local unit leaders.
There are several vacancies on the Delaware PTA board. We do not expect local unit leaders to fill them, unless you think you can serve a local and state role in PTA. However, you are the ones that know your members and can recommend or nominate someone to those positions.
In order to help us understand the lack of participation and work to solve the problem, I am asking you to FILL OUT THE SHORT 9 QUESTION SURVEY BELOW.
The next Board of Managers meeting will be held on March 22, 2010, beginning at 7:00 PM at the Delaware PTA office. Please mark the date on your calendar and if you can’t make it, send someone from your unit to represent you. There is much to be done but we will end at 8:30 PM.
