Support Healthy School Meals? Tell Congress to Put Students First!

This week the House of Representatives will be voting on the Fiscal Year 2015 Agriculture Appropriations Bill, which includes language that would allow a waiver from updated nutrition standards for some schools. Unfortunately, the call  to Congress to scale back nutrition standards is not coming from students or their parents – the very people school meals are intended to serve. Congress needs to hear your voice!   The Senate Education Committee will be discussing SB 229 on Wednesday June 4th at 2:30pm at Legislative Hall in Dover. Delaware teen elected National President of the Business Professionals of America

Middletown, DE-  Rachel Wagner, a Junior at Appoquinimink High School has been elected the National President of Business Professionals of America (BPA), Secondary Division. With 43,000 members in 23 states, BPA is America’s premier career and technical organization for students interested in business, IT and finance. Ms. Wagner was elected by popular vote at the BPA National Conference in May – an event attended by more than 5,000 delegates. She will serve as the National President during the 2014-15 school year. Her duties will include participation in local and national efforts to promote BPA and student participation in its programs.

Sterling Gray – 2014 National PTA Youth Leadership Summit Scholarship Recipient

Congratulations to Sterling Gray, recipient of the 2014 National PTA Youth Leadership Summit Scholarship. Sterling was one 15 award winners from around the country. The Delaware STEM Educator Award recognizes a teacher or team of teachers at both the elementary and secondary levels that demonstrate STEM innovation and excellence through teaching, academic collaboration, and student engagement.
