Delaware PTA Appoints Interim 1st VP

January 22, 2018

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Julie Alvarez as interim 1st VP of Delaware PTA effective immediately. After a recommendation from the Nomination Committee, State President Dr. Terri Hodges made the appointment and the Delaware PTA Executive Committee unanimously affirmed the appointment as part of the association’s leadership development and succession planning initiative.

Ms. Alvarez has a long-standing history of involvement with PTA at the local level. She is currently a committee chair with the North Star Elementary PTA. However, during the last ten years, she has served as a local unit President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Current state President Dr. Terri Hodges said, “I am thrilled to have Julie join the state board as the 1st VP. She brings a depth of personal and professional knowledge to the board that will serve her well in this position. I am confident that Delaware PTA will continue to grow and will remain a relevant resource for all families under Julie’s leadership. I am looking forward to working with her and supporting her on this journey.”

Ms. Alvarez will serve as the interim 1st VP until the Annual State Convention on April 28th at St. Georges High School, when she plans to run for President. When asked how she felt about taking on this new role, Ms. Alvarez stated, “I am honored and excited to join the incredibly dedicated Delaware State PTA board and be a part of the important work that they do to improve the lives of Delaware’s Children”.

There are several positions up open for election and multiple Committee and Chair opportunities available with Delaware PTA. A complete slate of candidates will be presented to the Board of Managers at their bi-annual meeting in March. After which, the slated candidates will be publicly announced.
