Convention FAQs

 Q. Does our unit have to attend the convention?

A. Yes, attendance at the Annual Convention is mandatory under the State and Local bylaws and is considered part of your unit compliance. Lack of attendance can place your unit at risk for non-compliance.

Q. I am new to PTA, what is the purpose of Convention?

A.Delaware nonprofit (corporate laws), National bylaws and State bylaws require that all registered 501(c)(3) hold an annual meeting for the voting body (membership) to come together and conduct business… i.e. vote for elected officers, proposed bylaws changes, legislative priorities, approve the finances and other general business. However, we like to have fun and make sure that our local units have access to resources and services that benefit their schools directly, so we include a vendor fair and other fun activities!

Q. What do we do if we have a schedule conflict and nobody on our board can attend?

A. The Annual Convention is open to everyone. So even if nobody from the local unit board can attend, you can always designate any paid member of your PTA to attend and represent your school – this includes educators.

Q. How much is the registration fee and who pays for it?

A. The registration fee is $35.00. Despite the enormity and content of the day, we do our best to keep registration costs low. Every local unit should have a line item in their budget for training and/or leadership development to cover the cost of Convention.

Q. How do we pay for Convention?

A. Delaware PTA has made paying for Convention very simple. We have streamlined the online payment process via our partnership with Cheddar Up. You do not need a Cheddar Up account or have to be an existing user to use Cheddar Up. Just check out as a guest! You can pay by credit card or bank check.

Q. Is childcare available?

A. No, unfortunately, we do not provide childcare due to liability.

Q. Is it true that any Delaware educator will receive 8 clock hours for attending?

A. Yes, all Delaware educators will receive 8 clock hours for attending – even if they are not a PTA member.

Since we are providing breakfast and lunch, we want to make sure we have an accurate headcount. We also want to make sure we can properly credential all paid PTA members to vote, so please don’t wait until the last minute to register.
